Meet Lomoro Emmanuel Founder of Generous Designs Africa
Emmanuel Lomoro is a refugee entrepreneur and founder of Generous Designs Africa (DGA), a refugee-led initiative in Bidibidi that transforms discarded plastic waste into reusable and practical products. His work demonstrates how environmental challenges can be turned into opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship and community livelihoods.
Emmanuel has been a scholar at SINA Loketa since 2019, where he developed his entrepreneurial skills and grew his business idea through mentorship, practical learning and support from SINA Loketa’s Start-up Lab programme. Through this support, he transformed his idea into a social enterprise focused on addressing plastic waste while creating livelihood opportunities.
The impact of his work extends beyond recycling. DGA has created employment opportunities for more than 15 single mothers, whom Emmanuel has trained in tailoring, plastic recycling and school-bag production. By combining skills development with waste recycling and product creation, the enterprise has helped women develop practical skills and income-generating opportunities while contributing to a cleaner community.
In 2025, Emmanuel was among the winners of the UNHCR Innovation Fund Award, recognising his innovative approach and commitment to community-led solutions. He is also one of the verified businesses on the Flexi Start-up Platform, giving DGA greater visibility and access to business development, mentorship, networking and potential market and investment opportunities.
Emmanuel’s journey from a SINA Loketa scholar to a refugee-led social entrepreneur demonstrates the power of mentorship, practical entrepreneurship training and sustained support in enabling refugees to become innovators, job creators and agents of positive change.
